Steve Glickman - Varsity Coach

The 2008-09 season was Steve’s initial season as Head Coach of the Maine Township program. He guided the Maineiacs to a Metro Central Division playoff championship and a second place finish in State. Steve has been coaching hockey for over 25 years. He has coached at various levels, including high school programs such as Loyola Academy, Evanston, Barrington and Warren. He also had a coaching stint in 1984-85 with the Plattsburgh Pioneers of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League coaching against many players who have gone on to many distinguished NHL careers, most notably Mario Lemieux. As a Head Coach with Loyola Academy Steve’s teams won two State Championships - in 1991-92 and in 2002-03. He was an AHAI All-State Coach in 2001-02 and has served on the coaching staff with the AHAI Development Programs for three years. Steve also coached with the USA Hockey National Development Program in St. Cloud Minnesota in 2004 and in Rochester, New York in 2007. Steve was a part of the Can/Am Hockey Group from 1981-1993 as a Head Instructor for five years before becoming a Camp Director for their camp in Rockford.

As a player Steve was a goaltender in the USHL with the Dubuque Fighting Saints before accepting an offer to play for the University of Wisconsin-River Falls where they won the NAIA College Division 2 Championship in 1981-82. In 1988 Steve had been retired as a player for four years before being asked to come out of retirement to play pre-season with the Milwaukee Admirals, then the minor league affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks. In January, 2009 Steve was inducted into the Illinois Hockey Hall-of-Fame in the player’s category. He is currently Director of Hockey Operations for the Skokie Park District where he has been for 15 years. In between he also served in the same capacity with the Niles Park District from 1999-2006.
