Thank you for another successful year with Rebuilding Together Chicago!

Dear Volunteers,

Every year I pause for a moment and wonder if I have the time, the energy or even the spirit to take on National Rebuilding Day, but I always remind myself that I am not alone and that it isn’t just my time, my energy or my spirit that makes this wonderful event a success year after year. It is your commitment of time, your collective energy and your incredible spirit of volunteerism and teamwork that makes National Rebuilding Day both a success as well as rewarding experience. When I couple this to the many smiling faces and tears of joy that we’ve received from the homeowners whose lives we changed over the years it is no wonder why so many of us keep coming back.

This year you made a difference for a truly remarkable woman. Mrs Kimball has lived in her home in Englewood for 40 years and in this home she lovingly raised her family. On Saturday we made changes Mrs. Kimball did not think would be possible in her lifetime. We gave her taller ceilings, fresh paint, new lights, new windows and blinds, a new shower head, and new hand rails just to list a few. At the close of the day and after a final walk through Mrs. Kimball’s smile brightened up my heart and it was in that moment that I realized exactly what it is that keeps me coming back .

Thank you and your family/friends who came along to lend a helping hand. You should be proud in what you were able to accomplish in one short day.
